Plan 🎇 Final Day - Networking Advent Calendar
The Networking Advent Calendar is a 24-day long training program to build your networking muscles (and your network)! Not sure why you should do this? Missed Day 1? Read more here.
Day 24: Create a networking plan for 2022
The holidays are right around the corner, and word on the street is that companies will put a pause on their work until January.
Not 100%. Startups are known for their hustling culture, and I personally know a handful of startups that will be working between Christmas and new year. A few people have also reached out to me to book calls for the first week of January.
When January comes, everyone will be applying to jobs as well as networking, so if you can create a plan now to get ahead of the curve.
Write those message drafts now
Based on these connection request templates and these cold email templates, you can already create a series of drafts for the messages you’d like to send when networking in the new year. This is also a great opportunity to polish your social media bio as well as creating a personal elevator pitch.
When you reach out, you can already ask people for a virtual coffee in 2022 to have it in their calendar.
Prepare to connect with people
You can also start creating an ongoing list of people you’d like to connect with, or a list of mentors you’d like to meet with. Think of the career goals you’d like to accomplish next year and use that to prepare for your mentoring sessions.
Don’t forget to join and check out what’s happening in your professional communities. You also have an existing network that you can tap into.
Do good work, and share it continuously
If there was a secret formula for becoming known, I would give it to you. But there’s only one not-so-secret formula that I know: Do good work and share it with people. — Austin Kleon, Steal Like An Artist
Build a habit of continuously sharing your achievements, personal projects, even just your learnings along the way. I’ve gotten more job opportunities for my projects than for my Coursera certificates.
I hope you’ve enjoyed exercising your networking muscle with this Networking Advent Calendar! If you’ve been following the Networking Advent Calendar and completed more than 10 tasks, let me know and I’ll give you a shout on Twitter!
Is there anything else you’d like to hear from me? What are the biggest challenges in your job search? I can’t wait to share more insights and tips in 2022 🙌
