Learning 📔 Day 19 - Networking Advent Calendar
The Networking Advent Calendar is a 24-day long training program to build your networking muscles (and your network)! Not sure why you should do this? Missed Day 1? Read more here.
Day 19: Share your learnings
Having worked a few years in his old job, Carl realized he wanted to be a software engineer instead. Carl took a software development bootcamp to pick up basic knowledge and landed a job quickly after. When speaking about his successful job search, Carl said:
The company that first offered me a junior position never asked about my bootcamp experience during the interview process. They asked me what I did after the bootcamp, so I showed them all these Github repos and interesting coding projects I did.
When many companies hire for junior or less experienced roles, they don’t expect the candidates to come with lots of technical knowledge. Rather, they expect the candidates to learn fast and be highly motivated. So why not start documenting and share your learnings publicly before you need a job?
On Day 17, you asked for help in your professional community. For today’s task, I invite you to share what you learned receiving help from Day 17 and beyond. If you’re taking an online course or learning a new thing by yourself, don’t learn in silence! Turn your learning into a project, a case study, a blog, or just a Twitter thread. That way, when you’re interviewed for your learning ability, you actually have things to show.
After all, if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
Are these networking exercises helpful? Any feedback for me? Looking forward to hearing from you!
