Comment 💬 Day 9 - Networking Advent Calendar
The Networking Advent Calendar is a 24-day long training program to build your networking muscles (and your network)! Not sure why you should do this? Missed Day 1? Read more here.
Day 9: Comment on 2 LinkedIn posts or Tweets
You might feel that networking takes eloquence. That a great networker is either someone who can start a conversation with anyone and give impressive speeches about themselves, or someone who writes the most beautiful cold emails to strangers.
The good news is — that’s not true. You don’t have to be a great speaker or writer to be a great networker. Some of the best networkers I know are simply people who are the most present (and they write the simplest intro emails).
Today’s task is about presence. If there are new people you’d like to network with, commenting on their posts is probably the easiest but surefire ways to create your presence. Not only will the other person receive a notification that you’re reading their work, others in your existing network will see your interactions in their news feed.
“They won’t pay attention to my comment”
To show you how wrong that is, my personal examples:
Kenneth, Spotify’s Engineering Manager, replied to my Tweet
Lenny Rachitsky, 98k followers, the most subscribed Substack author & probably one of the most famous product leaders, replied to me
Sophie, CEO + investor, responded to my recommendation of a speaker for a startup event, actually ended up inviting my colleague Milda to speak and giving me free entrance to the event (win-win-win!)
Finally, know that most social media platforms like LinkedIn and Twitter encourage engagement, especially comments and replies to Tweets. Your comment will also boost their LinkedIn post better than just a like. Slide into their comment section!
Are these networking exercises helpful? Any feedback for me? Looking forward to hearing from you!
